Pharma grade emulsifiers for topical formulations

SEPINEO™ SE 68 is a non-ionic glucolipid (cetearyl alcohol, cetearyl glucoside) designed for the formulation of O/W emulsions for topical applications. This system easily produces very stable oil/water emulsions and is stable over a wide pH range (3-11). In addition, it is highly resistant to electrolytes, and compatible with a large number of excipients, solvents and active ingredients. SEPINEO™ SE 68 emulsifier is an “active” promoter of liquid crystals, forming lamellar bilayers around oil droplets and lamellar phases in the continuous aqueous phase. This ability to form liquid crystals has several benefits:

• Improves the stability of the O/W emulsions
• Help reinforcing the lipid barrier allowing intrinsic hydration of up to 5 hours
• Help to vectorize the active ingredient

SEPINEO™ SE 68 can be used to formulate rich, velvety creams with a very good skin tolerance supported by toxicological analyses. Its’ rheofluidifying and moderate thixotropic nature will allow an easy and homogeneous spread. SEPINEO™ SE 68 is in solid, pellet form.

SIMALINE™ L80 is a liquid emulsifier for GELTRAP™ gel-in-oil and traditional W/O emulsion. Made up of sorbitan oleate and PEG-30 Dipolyhydroxystearate, this liquid polymeric emulsifier provides robustness and a pleasant sensory profile for optimal patient compliance.

Building a dosage form to solubilise and deliver a specific API into the skin can lead you to use excipients which will impact the touch of your final product negatively. With the GELTRAP™ technology it is possible to formulate with these same excipients and still ensure a positive patient experience. The polymeric nature of SIMALINE™ L80 is essential to formulate a GELTRAP™, i.e. emulsifying a high content of aqueous internal phase (>80%) into a gel-oil emulsion. SIMALINE™ has strong stabilizing properties even at low % of use. It helps to incorporate high quantities of polar solvents to promote the solubilization and skin penetration of APIs

SIMALINE™ WO is made up of PEG-30 Dipolyhydroxystearate. It is a polymeric emulsifier in solid paste form for formulation of water-in-oil emulsions and gel-in-oil emulsions. It is an excellent W/O emulsifier that effectively stabilizes oils at low concentrations with texture ranging from lotions to thick creams. It is compatible with a wide range of oils. In addition, SIMALINE™ WO can be combined with other Seppic products in order to formulate a gel-in-oil or GELTRAP™, a technology that can be used to formulate water-rich W/O emulsions with up to 80% aqueous phase. SIMALINE™ WO is an emulsifier that creates gel-in-oil emulsions with strong polar solvent stabilization and texture improvement properties.
