Sweeteners

Polyols for the Nordic food industry

Tooth-friendly and low calorie sweetness

We supply a range of polyols (sugar alcohols) for reduced-sugar and sugar-free food and beverage formulations. Polyols provide sweetness together with functional properties such as bulk, texture and mouthfeel and can be combined with high-intensity sweeteners to achieve the desired sweetness profile. They generally provide 2.4 kcal/g, except erythritol at 0 kcal/g, and are characterised by a lower glycaemic impact than conventional sugars and non-cariogenic properties.

Erythritol

Erythritol (E 968) is a zero-calorie bulk sweetener that provides approx. 60–70% of the sweetness of sucrose. It offers a clean sweetness profile with characteristic cooling effect and is particularly suitable for beverages, confectionery, bakery products and tabletop sweeteners. Organic grades are available. Learn more about how erythritol can be used insugar-free ice cream formulation >

Isomalt
Isomalt (E 953) provides approx. 45–60% of the sweetness of sucrose. Its good stability and low hygroscopicity make it well suited to hard-boiled confectionery, lozenges and other sugar-free confectionery applications. Explore our solution for sugar-free hard candy >
Maltitol

Maltitol (E 965) provides approx. 75–90% of the sweetness of sucrose together with good bulking and texturising properties. It is widely used in chocolate, confectionery, bakery products and fillings.

Xylitol

Xylitol (E 967) provides sweetness comparable to sucrose, together with a clean taste and characteristic cooling effect. It is commonly used in chewing gum, mints, confectionery and oral-care-related applications.
