Fibres promote digestive health which is of vital importance to keep us healthy. Despite public campaigns and a general awareness of the importance of fibres, there is still a substantial gap between the recommended daily intake of fibres and the amount that is consumed. A mean to close this “fibre gap” is dietary supplements with prebiotic fibres. We supply a wide range of ORAFTI® soluble prebiotic fibres sourced from chicory root.
Chicory root fibres are soluble, prebiotic, dietary fibres. They are selectively fermented in the large intestine by the beneficial bifidobacteria supporting a healthy microbiota. We supply three different types of ORAFTI® fibres: ORAFTI® Inulin, ORAFTI® Oligofructose and ORAFTI® Synergy 1 – all promoting well-being and health.
ORAFTI® inulin and oligofructose support a healthy intestinal environment. Having a positive influence on gut micro flora by supporting selectively bacteria regarded as “good bacteria”, these prebiotic dietary fibres also contribute to a better regulated transit and high stool frequency. In January 2015, based on Beneo’s dossier, EFSA published a positive evaluation on ORAFTI® Inulin’s beneficial effect on bowel function by increasing stool frequency. In addition to this proprietary art. 13.5 claim, general well-being claims under art. 10.3 is also a possibility for formulations with ORAFTI® Inulin and oligofructose – e.g. “promotes digestive health” or “supports a healthy and balanced digestive system”. To achieve the claimed effect an amount of 12 g native chicory inulin should be consumed daily. The 12 g can be split up into several servings per day.
Blood sugar management is another field where inulin contributes, having a 13.5 health claim on lower blood glucose rise. The health claim confirms that inulin and oligofructose contributes to a better blood glucose management by supporting a lower rise in blood glucose response. General health related well-being claims under art. 10.3 is also a possibility – this could for instance be “lower and more balanced blood glucose rise”. To use the claims, a 30% sugar reduction must be obtained by replacement with non-digestible carbs such as ORAFTI® inulin and oligofructose.
In addition to promoting digestive health and supporting a lower rise in blood sugar response, the functional ORAFTI® inulin fibres have proven to support weight management and to contribute to stronger bones by helping the body absorb more calcium.
ORAFTI® Inulin is naturally sourced fibres from chicory root. The inulin-type fructans are based on fructose polymers with a degree of polymerization (DP) ranging from standard (DP≥10) to long chain (DP≥23). They are soluble, prebiotic, fermentable dietary fibres.
ORAFTI® Oligofructose, naturally sourced fibres from chicory root. The fibres are inulin-type fructans obtained by partial enzymatic hydrolysis of inulin. The hydrolysis results in lower chain length proportions and the degree of polymerization is DP≤9. In addition to health benefits, oligofructose is also excellent for natural sugar reduction.
ORAFTI® Synergy 1 is oligofructose enriched inulin and has a unique combination of short chain and long chain chicory inulin to achieve specific physiological effects. The inulin fibres are soluble, prebiotic, fermentable dietary fibres.
