Dietary fibres for food applications

Tailored fibre solutions for functional and nutritional optimisation

We supply a comprehensive range of dietary fibres for fibre enrichment in food products. They add several health benefits to the products while also providing valuable technological functionalities such as water and oil binding, moisture retention and stabilising or texturising effects in final formulations. Certain fibres such as inulin and oligofructose fibres also add a mild sweetness to formulations making them ideal for reducing added sugars and are also in some cases well-suited for lowering the fat content in some applications.

Dietary fibres are non-digestible carbohydrate polymers that can be classified as soluble or insoluble. Soluble fibres including inulin, oligofructose, beta-glucan, pectin, micronized cellulose and psyllium (arabinoxylan) dissolve in water, but their solubility, fermentability in the intestine and viscosity are influenced by the physicochemical characteristics of the fibres.

Both inulin and oligofructose fibres are based on fructan units, but they differ in their degree of polymerisation (DP). Oligofructose has a lower DP compared to inulin, resulting in higher solubility, more rapid fermentation in the intestine and lower viscosity. Fermentation by beneficial bacteria in the intestine has several health benefits including bowel function, reduced blood glucose response, weight management, and mineral absorption. Inulin and oligofructose are renowned for their unique prebiotic effect.

We also offer a broad selection of insoluble fibers comprising cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin sourced from bamboo, buckwheat, cocoa, maize, and wheat bran. These fibres support product texture, increase formulation stability, help reduce calorific value, and may also contribute to more cost-effective manufacturing. Nutritionally, insoluble fibres also play a key role in digestive health by adding bulk to stool and stimulating bowel motility.

Certain plant fibres from sources such as apples, peas, and carrots naturally offer a well-balanced mix of soluble and insoluble fibres. They contain soluble pectin as well as insoluble fibres like cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, delivering a multifunctional fibre solution ideal for various food applications.
