Permeation enhancement compounds for solid orals

High purity, compressible Sodium Caprate (C10) and Sodium Caprylate (C8) are excellent as permeation enhancers of oral delivery systems for therapeutic drugs with poor bioavailability

Bioavailability and effictiveness of API’s play a crucial role in the success of products in the market. Sodium caprate (C10) is one of the most studied permeation enhancement compounds for improving oral absorption of compounds with limited intestinal permeability. It is common that peptides, structurally similar non-peptides, and other types of macromolecules or hydrophilic small molecules, have poor intestinal permeability, low oral bioavailability and rapid enzymatic or pH-induced degradation in the gastrointestinal tract.

Sodium caprate is recognised for its ability to enhance bioavailability by “loosening” the tight junctions between cells in the intestinal lining, which allows compounds to pass more easily through the cell membranes and into the bloodstream. This can lead to higher concentrations of an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) or nutrient in the bloodstream and can therefore yield improved therapeutic or nutritional effects.

Jost Chemical offers two permeation enhancement compounds, Sodium Caprate and Sodium Caprylate for tablet, capsule, and pre-mix preparations. Both products are Halal and Kosher certified. Sodium caprylate and sodium caprate are approved as food additives in both the United States and European Union.

Permeation enhancement compounds are primarily used in the pharmaceutical industry, however, there is an emerging exploration of permeation enhancement in the nutritional and cosmetic industries.
