SEPISMART™ SR, a synergistic combination of natural co-processed gums, is a ready-to-use excipient for gradual release of actives in tablet and capsule formulations. This means that the actives are not released all at once, thereby avoiding a sudden massive influx of compounds for the human body to absorb. Due to the synergistic effect of the gums and the process used, SEPISMART™ SR is easy to use in direct compression processes. It has great flowability and tablets formulated with SEPISMART™ SR demonstrate excellent results in terms of hardness and friability at low compression forces.
Tablets formulated with SEPISMART™ SR in direct compression can subsequently be coated without the sustained release properties being altered. It is fully compatible with the SEPIFILM™ functional and aesthetic coating agents.
In addition to tablets, SEPISMART™ SR can also be used as it is in hard capsules, bringing the same sustained release effect as seen in the tablets, and in granule form.
The carefully selected combination of natural gums allows SEPISMART™ SR to swell immediately in the presence of water thereby forming a thick gel layer around the tablet. This results in a slow diffusion of the soluble active ingredients through the gel layer, and insoluble actives are released gradually by tablet erosion.
