In the light of a greater awareness of how a healthy diet can impact health and beauty, consumers are becoming more and more interested in beauty-from-within dietary supplements in their search for beautiful skin. SEPITONEā¢ fermented bilberry extract is a clinically proven ingredient offering rich possibility for formulation of supplements in different galenic forms that provide a healthy glow from the inside-out.
SEPITONEā¢ is a natural and high quality fermented wild bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) extract. During the fermentation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the anthocyanins are polymerised and transformed into polycatcechocyanidins, a powerful and stable complex of polyphenols which are proven to have a superior antioxidant capacity. The proanthocyanidins offer strong protection against oxidative stress, and research has demonstrated their beneficial effects on collagen, skin elasticity and blood circulation.
SEPITONEā¢ has a clinically confirmed beneficial effect on the colour and evenness of the skin tone as well as on the skin roughness. It can be formulated as the central ingredient in food supplements designed for providing a healthy glow and a beautiful natural complexion. Furthermore, it is well-suited as a supporting ingredient in anti-ageing, sun care or men grooming formulations for added benefits on the complexion.
Beauty can be perceived very differently, but a healthy-looking skin is widely considered as beautiful skin. A healthy-looking skin can be characterised by the evenness, softness and colour of the skin. In vivo tests have been performed to study the effect of antioxidant rich SEPITONEā¢ extract on skin appearance.
A test panel of 60 healthy, female volunteers aged 18-65 years with dull complexion participated in a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled test. Over a period of 12 weeks, 100 mg of SEPITONEā¢ was taken by the participants on a daily basis. Different skin parameters were analysed on the faces of the volunteers at the beginning and at the end of the study. The test showed that skin colour improved by 5.4%* (a*) and 4.0%*,ā” (b*). Skin pigmentation was also improved (ITA decreased by 4.7%**), and skin softness improved by 167%. In addition, there was also an improvement of skin perfusion shown by a better homogeneity of the distribution of the skin face blood perfusion (evaluated by Laser Perfusion Imaging System). The positive results of the study were also confirmed by a questionnaire-based evaluation where 93% of the subjects taking SEPITONEā¢ found that their complexion had improved. An 82% of the volunteers observed less redness on their skin. Finally, 69% of the participants stated that their skin had less imperfections.
