Dry scalp is a common hair and scalp issue which results in dry flakes, scalp itching and discomfort. Development of dry white flakes is mainly caused by a low level of sebum and a weak barrier function resulting in dry scalp and an anarchic migration of keratinocytes leading to a thickening of the stratum corneum which exfoliates improperly and forms scales of dead skin. A key to breaking this vicious cycle is PATCHOUL’UP™ which helps to recover a healthy scalp microbiota.
PATCHOUL’UP™ is a 100% upcycled active ingredient able to rebalance sebum production, eliminate dry flakes and normalise the scalp microbiome for overall well-being. The ingredient is sourced responsibly in Indonesia and is crafted through green fractionation from distilled patchouli leaves after their use as a raw material in fragrance production.
PATCHOUL’UP™ demonstrates biological activity in four areas:
PATCHOUL’UP™ is aligned with Givaudan’s approach to shaping a sustainable future for all through its Sourcing4Good programme. Since 2013, their Origination team has been working closely with local producers on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi to develop a sustainable smallholder patchouli business. Hundreds of producers and local suppliers are involved in the production of patchouli oil for perfumery, and now for scalp-care ingredients. Good agricultural practices led by agronomists on the fields results in a better yield and a decrease in bee-friendly pesticide usage.
Rinse-off products e.g. shampoos, conditioners.
Leave-on products e.g. lotions, masks.
