Alsiano supplies a range of fillers sourced from leading manufacturers. Many of the fillers also provide various properties or functionalities such as being free-flowing powders, offering low hygroscopicity, functioning also as binders and disintegrants, and promoting processing stability. See more below and feel free to contact us for more information about specific products and for special requests.
Calcium phosphate and calcium carbonate are excellent fillers or diluents for oral solid dosage forms and contribute also with other functionalities such as binding.
Calcium phosphate is a popular excipient and is widely used in solid oral dosage forms as a filler and as a binder. It has excellent flowability and compressibility characteristics. In addition, it is relatively low cost. Alsiano offers Dibasic calcium phosphate (DCP) and Tricalcium phosphate (TCP).
DCP has excellent flow properties and is great for direct compression tableting formulation. Particle size, bulk and tapped density can be varied to suit customer requirement. Available as dihydrate and anhydrous.
TCP is a bulky powder with an ideal Ca/P ratio of 2:1 for better bioavailability in calcium supplements. The TCP is manufactured by a special process giving it high porosity, making it also great for application as an anticaking agent.
Both types of calcium phosphate are BP/EP/USP/FCC.
The Destab™ calcium carbonate range is pre-granulated in bulk using carriers such as starch, acacia gum, or maltodextrin. Destab™ calcium carbonate is perfect for direct compression tablets and capsules. The materials are granular, free flowering powders, extremely consistent in particle size. Superior consistency throughout each lot allows for operating equipment at higher speeds with greater efficiencies.
These calcium carbonates bring excellent compressibility and disintegration properties which improve tablet performance. Optimal particle property is another advantage which improve tablet press speeds and reduce manufacturing costs. Furthermore, the excellent flow properties of the material will prevent blockage and improve yields in high-speed tablet processes.
The high-quality calcium carbonate also includes ultra-low lead products (no more than 250 ppb).
Polyols or sugar alcohols are excellent as fillers for solid dosage formulations such as chewable, swallowable, and effervescent tablets, granulated powders/sachets, buccal applications, and lozenges. Also well-suited for liquid dosage formulations such as syrups.
Our range of polyols for use as excipients include erythritol, isomalt, maltitol and xylitol. In addition to the function as a filler, this group of ingredients also brings sweetness and taste-masking to food supplements and pharmaceutical formulations.
Erythritol is a natural sugar alcohol that widely exists in fruit and fermented food. It is a very low-calorie, almost zero calorie (0.2 calories/g, 95% less than sucrose) anti-cariogenic sweetener, and does not cause any gastrointestinal discomfort. It masks off-flavours, has cooling effect, smooth mouthfeel, and nice texture. In addition, it is easily absorbed. We supply different grades and particle size available including for direct compression.
Isomalt is a 100% sugar-free, non-cariogenic excipient great as a filler/binder for nutraceutical formulations. It is based on a mixture of hydrogenated saccharides and is naturally sourced from pure beet sugar but holds only half the calories of sugar. Isomalt has a pleasant sugar-like, natural taste profile with almost no cooling effect. It is sugar-free, tooth-friendly, and suitable for diabetics. In addition, it is an excellent carrier for flavours.
Isomalt DC is a white agglomerate ideal for use in direct compression in which it ensures hard tablets with low compression forces, and good dissolution and disintegration profile. It has a very low hygroscopicity, and superior shelf-life and engraving stability. Isomalt DC provides protection of moisture sensitive ingredients, no reaction with amino groups and high resistance against enzymatic and acidic degradation. Furthermore, it gives a smooth mouthfeel and good flavour release for formulations.
Maltitol is a sweet, sugar-free filler/binder with film-forming and coating properties. It is a sugar alcohol made by hydrogenation of maltose obtained from starch. Maltitol is a low calorie (2.4 kcal/g) sugar substitute with 90% of the sweetness of sucrose. It has a good, sweet taste, no cooling effect, and it is non-cariogenic. Benefits of maltitol in relation to tablet formulations include low hygroscopicity and high chemical stability. We offer different grades of maltitol with varying particle size available – also grades for direct compression.
Xylitol is a sugar alcohol occurring naturally in vegetables, fruits and wood. It is a white crystalline powder, as sweet as sucrose, but easier dissolved than sucrose and low-calorie (2.4 kcal/g, 40% fewer calories than sucrose). It is not fermented by bacteria in the mouth and therefore considered tooth-friendly (anti-cariogenic). Xylitol provides an intense cooling effect and a pleasant taste, smooth mouthfeel, and texture. We supply direct compressible high-quality xylitol excellent for simple tablet manufacturing.
Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) is a partially depolymerised pure cellulose. It is an insoluble, odourless, and tasteless white powder. MCC is well-suited as a filler excipient in tablets and capsules and is also widely used for its outstanding dry binding properties, enabling manufacture of tablets by direct compression. It demonstrates superior compressibility, high dilution potential, optimal particle size distribution, low friction coefficient/friability, good flowability and fast disintegration. Furthermore, MCC enhances the absorption of drugs for solid dosage formulations.
We provide a range of MCC with different particle distribution, bulk density, and moisture. Our MCC complies with the latest edition of USP/NF, Ph.Eur., JP, and IP.
Starch is a great filler and diluent excipient for solid dosage forms. To accommodate different needs and requirements, we offer a line of starch including native and modified rice starch and partially pregelatinised starch.
SEPISTAB™ ST 200 is a versatile filler excipient which is an excellent for capsules and tablets. Being a mix of native starch and pregelatinised corn starch, SEPISTAB brings both binding and disintegrating properties as well as excellent flow which is important for direct compression or filling capsules. Furthermore, this partially pregelatinised starch can be used as an absorption medium, thanks to its porosity and it also has an anti-capping action.
SEPISTAB can improve the stability of active ingredients which are sensitive to moisture due to its role as a moisture scavenger and its very low Aw value. Form: White, taste and odourless granules.
We supply a broad line of native and modified rice starch made from different rice varieties. Rice starch is suited for tablets and powder sachets and is characterised by very small granules, 2-8 μm. In addition, rice starch is hypo-allergenic, highly digestible, neutral in taste, non-GMO, and has a good flowability.
