Givaudan Active Beauty boosts well-ageing with launch of SILIPHOS®

New botanical retinol challenger outperforms bakuchiol

Givaudan Active Beauty is strengthening its well-ageing portfolio with the launch of Siliphos®, the best natural alternative to retinoids. Suitable for delicate skin, Siliphos® is extracted by green fractionation from milk thistle fruits and powered by Phytosome® technology. This new active ingredient outperforms the plant-based retinol alternative bakuchiol while offering benefits that challenge retinoid efficacy by reducing wrinkles without side effects.

Natural cosmetic alternatives are increasingly demanded by consumers, including in a more natural version of retinol. According to Givaudan Active Beauty’s global CMI study (1), 77% of the consumers across 6 countries declared that they would be very interested in a natural version of retinol: enjoying the multiple skin benefits without worrying about the potential side effects such as redness, dryness and irritation.

Giada Maramaldi, Botanical Actives Category Manager for Active Beauty: “Siliphos® is the first natural alternative to retinoids and bakuchiol capable of providing well-ageing benefits comparable to retinol. Extracted from Silybum marianum Gaertn fruit, it acts directly on collagen production to provide a natural, safe and efficient skincare solution, suitable for even the most delicate skins.”

Clinically tested performance

The well-ageing performance of Siliphos® was tested in a clinical study on volunteers presenting crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles. All tests demonstrated Siliphos® to significantly outperform bakuchiol and act as efficiently as retinoids by reducing:

  • Crow’s feet wrinkles by x2 (2)
  • Overall facial wrinkles by x2.3 (2)
  • Number of forehead wrinkles by 21.2% (3)
  • Circumference of forehead wrinkles by 17.4% (3)
  • Redness by 22.9% (4)

Givaudan Active Beauty’s marketing concept featuring Siliphos® will be presented during PCHi 2023. For more information on the powerful new active, please contact our team. We also invite you to connect to uxbeauty.givaudan.com, Givaudan’s digital platform dedicated to cosmetic ingredients.
