Selected carbohydrates such as D-xylose and PALATINOSE™ isomaltulose provide moderate sweetness alongside distinct nutritional and formulation properties.
In nutraceutical applications, they can be used in powdered supplements, sachets, stick packs and selected liquid formulations, depending on their intended function and the nutritional profile of the finished product.
D-xylose is a naturally occurring pentose sugar with mild sweetness, typically around 60% of that of sucrose.
It can contribute sweetness and solids to selected oral formulations. Potential applications include powdered nutraceutical preparations and specialised oral formulations where its specific properties are required.
Its use should be assessed in relation to the intended nutritional purpose, regulatory status and compatibility with other ingredients.
PALATINOSE™ isomaltulose is a fully digestible carbohydrate derived from sucrose. It provides approximately 50% of the sweetness of sucrose and an energy value of 4 kcal/g.
Isomaltulose is digested more slowly than sucrose and provides a more gradual release of glucose into the bloodstream.
It is particularly relevant to specialised carbohydrate-containing nutrition formulations such as sports nutrition, energy products and specialised nutrition formulatons, including powdered products, portioned sachets and stick packs where carbohydrate delivery is part of the intended nutritional function.
Its mild sweetness also contributes to the overall sensory profile.
