MCC for moisture sensitive active ingredients
Blanver has reincorporated Microcel MC-112 in its portfolio of microcrystalline cellulose which is ideal for use in formulations containing moisture sensitive ingredients
Microcel MC-112 Microcrystalline Cellulose has similar physical, chemical and functional characteristics to the popular Microcel MC-102 type which with residual moisture less than 1.5% and good flow, disintegration and compressibility can solve a majority of formulation problems. Nevertheless, Microcel MC-112 is recommended for moisture sensitive active ingredients and produces a hard tablet with reduced weight variation.
The low residual moisture ensures a significant reduction in the product water activity which is below 0.18. The low water activity makes Microcel MC-112 ideal for use in formulations containing moisture sensitive ingredients such as some active pharmaceutical ingredients, vitamins and minerals, reducing risks of their degradation in the finished products.
Microcel MC-112 is indicated, for example, for use in products containing probiotics. Its low water activity reduces the action of microorganisms that compose the probiotics.
Microcel MC-112 is recommended for both direct compression and dry granulation in the manufacturing of tablets, capsules, and granules. Recommended usage levels are between 10-50%.
