Microcrystalline cellulose MCC 112 is ideal for use in formulations containing moisture sensitive ingredients

MCC 112 Microcrystalline cellulose has physical, chemical and functional characteristics similar to the popular MCC 102 type which with residual moisture less than 1.5% and good flow, disintegration and compressibility can solve a majority of formulation problems. Nevertheless, MCC 112 is recommended for moisture sensitive active ingredients and produces a hard tablet with reduced weight variation.

 

The low residual moisture ensures a significant reduction in the product water activity which is below 0.18. The low water activity makes MCC 112 ideal for use in formulations containing moisture sensitive ingredients such as some active pharmaceutical ingredients, vitamins and minerals, thereby reducing the risk of their degradation in the finished products. MCC 112 can for instance be used in products containing probiotics. Its low water activity reduces the action of microorganisms that compose the probiotics.

 

MCC 112 is recommended for both direct compression and dry granulation in the manufacturing of tablets, capsules, and granules. Recommended usage levels are between 10-50%.
